Homemade Febreze

I live in an old house and for some reason when winter comes my house stinks and smells linger for days.  We are on a  tight budget. If I can find any way to save I am there... I use baking soda like a crazy person. When I ran across this Homemade febreze from http://starneslifefamilylove.blogspot.com I had to make it no question... It is so easy to make and super fast. After I made it and started to spray it ever I knew I was hooked... 

What you'll need:

1/8 Cup of fabric softener (I used Downy April Fresh)
2 tablespoons Baking Soda
Hot tap water
Spray bottle (27 oz. works great)

How to make it:
Pour fabric softener and baking soda into your spray bottle. Fill spray bottle with hot tap water and shake well. (make sure you put lid on 1st)  


Store-bought Febreze: $5.59
Homemade Febreze: $0.15
Total Savings: $5.44 or 97.3 %

Clean Your Mattress

After a while things get smelly and dirty... Even mattresses!

I found an amazing way to clean my mattress and make it smell fresh and removes all the dust mites and other nasty things left in your mattress over a period of time....

1 cup of baking soda 
4 drops of lavender or lemon essential oil
Mix together and spread even on the mattress
Wait about an hour, use your vacuum hose and throughly vacuum the mattress

Baking soda helps draw up any moisture and deep dirtiness and deodorizes leaving the mattress smelling clean and fresh. The essential oil leaves a faint scent behind.
You will be surprised by the difference it makes. :)

Homemade Fabric Softener

I found this AMAZING recipe for fabric softener that was super easy. When you break it down money wise you are saving so much. I went ahead and made me a batch, I did half it just to make sure I liked it.

Homemade Fabric Softener

Ingredients:

6 cups water

3 cups white vinegar

2 sups hair conditioner

Directions:

1. Mix water, vinegar, and hair conditioner; stir (Do not shake it; will

foam if you do so) It may take a few minutes to completely blend.

2.Use as you would normally in rinse cycle or spray it on a wash cloth and throw in the dryer.

To Sum Up: I love it and will be making a larger batch with a different kind of smell. This conditioner does not carry over every well. The only negative thing is that I don't get the fresh smell as strong as I would like. I do get a little hint of the vinegar smell at times but it doesn't bother me at all.

Let me break down the price for you

Vineger: $3.83 for 1 gallon (yet you don't even come close to using that much)

Conditionar: $0.83

Water: Free (I did not use smart water; I just used the bottle for the example of water)

So for one gallon of fabric softener you are spending about $3.00 on average.

My towels and clothes are coming out amazingly soft and I am saving a few bucks. WIN WIN!
